In the interim this summer, I hope you will use this site, “Improving Police,” as a resource center.

You will find many critical areas of policing discussed in over 1200 posts concerning police use of force, the new leadership, police training methods (moving from boot camp to college!), the important values inherent in policing a free society, police educational needs, and a host of other police related topics.

By using the search tool on the right column, you can find any of these and other topics.

I served over 20 years as the chief of police in Madison (WI), four years as chief of the Burnsville (MN) Police Department, and before that as a police officer in Edina (MN) and the City of Minneapolis. I hold graduate degrees from the University of Minnesota and Edgewood College in Madison. I have written many articles over my years as a police leader. After retiring from the police department, I answered a call to ministry, attended seminary, and was ordained as a priest in the Episcopal Church.
