This Must Be Understood

If we want to sincerely consider help from the federal government in improving our nation’s police, we must understand the following situation.

This year’s presidential race showcases stark differences on police accountability.

A lengthy article in the Washington Post earlier this week makes the case.

It is quite clear, at least to me, as to which candidate supports national oversight of the methods and practices we use to police the people of our great nation and enforce our laws.

You know what to do.

When it comes to policing we need quality, uniformity, and constitutionality across the nation.

We don’t permit each state to construct highways without meeting a federal standard (or a host of other safety and quality measures from education, transportation, or prescription drugs to name just a few.) It should be the same for our police.

The federal government must continue to step in and take an oversight role when police systems fail us

It’s not about taking “handcuffs” off police, but rather putting on reasonable, ethical, and lawful expectations regarding police behavior.

Again, you know what to do.
