I want my readers to know this video is not how you police a Constitutional democracy. This is “bad” policing and it affects how all the men and women in America who serve in our towns, cities, counties and states.
Your police leaders need to separate themselves from “immigration enforcement” and make it clear to all residents in your jurisdiction that this is NOT who you are.
The failure to do this puts a large number of persons in our country in jeopardy of being victimized without being able to find help from their local police.
We are not a nation ruled by a king. Instead, we are a nation of laws and due process procedures
It’s time for local police to stand up and define themselves and what they do. Or? I don’t want to think about it. I did not serve my country in its military and police for over 40 years to see it demolished under my watch! I feel danger. I want to protect!

This would not have happened this way if this woman would have simply done what she was told to do by the police, David. Now she has additional charges to answer for.
2. Don’t threaten the police.
3. When a police officer tells you to do something, just do it. Even if you don’t want to.
This is what is required of all citizens who want to live in a constitutional “republic,” this is not a democracy. If you truly want to be compassionate, send that message, otherwise you are just virtue signaling.

I think I know what you are trying to say. But people come from different backgrounds and experiences. We are all no the same. You and I, as white men and because experience may do just that — comply. We can do this because we can get legal help, and we most likely would be able to have money for bail or friends who would come to our aid. Not so with many others. And I would especially say that people of color, immigrants, young persons, persons suffering from a mental illness, and many women may react to a police encounter in ways we may not understand or expect. That’s why we need compassionate police and policing! Would it have been so difficult for these ICE officers to do just that; to use their authority in a way that respects the process and especially people, preserves their dignity? We are not in a police state — yet. I am worried by how our nation’s top leadership is treating people they allegedly serve. Stay tuned. We are entering troubled waters.
Check this out for your CJ students. Would you show it and discuss it? https://youtu.be/yJzjpJQvUZg?si=tUFfkmeEMv4qtUGz

You are absolutely correct David, people come from different backgrounds and have many different experiences with the police. They also hear stories about the cops and develop ideas about their individual rights and how the police should do their job, demanding to see the warrant in this case is a good example. BUT, the law doesn’t care about any of that, the police are agents of the law.
Our laws and legal processes are based on an objective, rational, standard, on rationality, not passions, emotion, and fear. We charge our officers with enforcing the law without passion and everyone has a duty to comply regardless of their past experiences, their fear, or how they may feel about the injustice of the system. To expect our officers to be sensitive to these emotions is not reasonable. It’s nice when it happens, which it does often, but it cannot be the standard.
Find fault first with those who do not comply with the officer(s), then suggest how the officers can do things better to minimize resentment and fear, that is the focus of my book. The vast majority of tragic incidents involving the police could be eliminated if people would just control their emotions and do what they are told.

First of all, it kind of funny how cops and right wing people can’t or wouldn’t follow your advice. Look at the Jan 6th insurrection where cops, ex-cops and right wing people threaten and fought the police
Secondly, how about cops fighting citizens or threatening when there was no need for it in the first place.
Thirdly, where does it say in the Constitution that this is required of all citizens who want to live in a constitutional “republic,” When you look at the history of the USA, it has been a plutocratic/Oligarchical one where the rich and powerful rule the country under the disguise of a democracy. If you want make this a requirement, amend the Constitution or move to places like Hungary, Russia, China, El Salvador, India or Vietnam.
Fourthly, the laws in the country vary from state to state about when you don’t have to obey a police officer’s order depending on the situtation such as giving the officer your ID and driver’s license.
Here is a governor instructing his employes about dealing with ICE. He is not going to let his people be intimidated or threatened by the police:

Sorry but our laws are not legal processes are based on an objective, rational, standard, on rationality, not passions, emotion, and fear when you look at how they have been rigged to favor the rich and the powerful while oppressing the poor and the working class.; otherwise, our prisons would be filled up with CEOs, wealthy people, crooked cops, crooked judges, and crooked DAs. You are living in a dream world and need to get out into the real world.
Cops are the ones that need to control their emotions partyiculary their fears and need to be prepare to protect the public even at the risks of their own lives instead of trying to preserve their own lives above that of the public:
