FBI Under Attack

It’s Time to Stand Up for Justice — Before It’s Too Late

I’ve written before about the political dismantling of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. But what’s happening now goes beyond concerning — it’s alarming. And every police officer in America should be standing up and speaking out.

Let me be clear: the FBI is not a perfect agency. Like all institutions — and all people — it has room to grow and improve. I’ve praised them when they’ve done good work, and I’ve criticized them when they’ve fallen short. Accountability is essential in a democracy.

But we are now witnessing something far more dangerous than imperfection. We’re seeing a full-scale politicization of our nation’s justice system — and it’s accelerating.

The most outrageous example? Former President Donald Trump’s pardon of January 6th insurrectionists — individuals who violently attacked police officers, threatened elected officials, and desecrated the U.S. Capitol. That move should have provoked widespread resistance. Instead, it’s been met with far too much silence.

This is not how justice works in a free society.

Law enforcement itself is under attack — not just from outside, but from within. And one of the clearest signs is what’s happening at ICE. Agents dressed like commandos, operating without visible identification, refusing to produce credentials — this is unacceptable in a constitutional democracy. It’s Policing 101: law enforcement must be lawful, visible, and accountable to the people it serves.

Here’s the heart of the issue, as laid out by The New York Times Editorial Board (July 5, 2025):

“Mr. Trump’s playbook for the FBI is plain to see. He is turning it into an enforcement agency for MAGA’s priorities. He is chasing out agents who might refuse to play along and installing loyalists in their place… He is trying to instill fear in his critics and political opponents.”

“Among his many efforts to weaken American democracy, his politicization of the FBI is one of the most blatant. The bureau is now less able to combat terrorism, espionage, biosecurity threats, organized crime, scams, white-collar crime, drug trafficking, and more.”

Trump has installed Kash Patel — a loyalist known more for writing children’s books glorifying Trump than for any real law enforcement experience — as FBI Director. His deputy? Dan Bongino, a far-right media personality who has called the bureau “the most corrupt law enforcement institution in America.”

As a result, over 650 FBI employees have recently filed for early retirement. That’s 15% of the workforce. The morale of one of our nation’s most critical institutions is in freefall.

This is unprecedented. We are in deep trouble.

We cannot afford to stay quiet. The rule of law, the future of American policing, and the very health of our democracy are on the line.

Now is the time to speak up. Now is the time to resist.
