It’s going on four years now that Improving Police has been published.
The purpose of this blog was to generate thinking about improving our nation’s police. It was also used to introduce two books of mine — “Arrested Development” and “The New Quality Leadership Workbook for Police.”
Since that time, there have been over 250 posts on this site encompassing a variety of topics; for example, drones, leadership, the use of force, practicing community-oriented policing and walking our talk.
Over 108,ooo folks have visited this site. They come from not only the U.S. but from over 140 countries around the world. And there are over 500 “Followers;” those who receive an email everytime there is a new post.
The interest in improving police may be more universal than we think.
But if I am to “WALK MY TALK” about improvement, leadership and quality, I need to ask YOU how this blog is working for you.
Would you be so kind as to CLICK HERE (a link to “Survey Monkey”) and answer a few questions anonymously as to how this blog can do a better job for you? It should only take a few minutes.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
And here’s to high-quality, customer-oriented policing which is accomplished by police officers who are educated, well-trained, controlled in the use of force, honest, and courteous!

i enjoy the themes of the blog discussion you create but much like the other blog forums I participate in it seems to be one-way. You create awareness by producing great material but there is little interaction from the followers. Are we like sponges and soak up the material you offer? Or do most see the topic and simply delete? The issues you raise are vitally important to policing today…and tomorrow. As a practioner, i would love to see greater dialogue on these topics, particularly from my colleagues.

Absolutely! Those are not rhetorical questions that I pose from time to time on this blog — they are earnest requests for commentary. I have been somewhat dismayed at the lack of response I get on this blog — I know practitioners are busy, but to improve the field we need DIALOGUE. That’s why I have asked readers to give me some feedback on Survey Monkey on how this blog can be improved. I am open to quest columns and all kinds of feedback — that’s intellectual development and prevents an “arrested development” within policing. See http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/RQKWSJP. Unfortunately, I have had my requests turned down by chiefs “too busy” to comment. Too busy to improve the field? Come on!

It is sad and outragous that that those people who are police officers don’t want to reply to you let alone seek your wisdom and your leadership and innovative training techniques in teaching police recruits when it comes to truning them into first class cops.

According to my blog there are over 500 folks who “follow” my blog. Maybe it gets out there. I know there is a reluctance in the police field to speak out (lots of “fate control” mechanisms exist in agencies that do not practice Quality Leadership and listen to their troops! I remain hopeful that the ideas generated on this blog will (one day) take root!
