Do You Understand What’s Going On?

Officers, do you understand what is going on?

You can no longer be silent.

The Facebook post linked below is what I have been talking (preaching) about.

This is the time for you to stand up and define yourself — “THAT’S NOT ME. I AM NOT THAT KIND OF COP!” (We did this Madison in 1991 when Rodney King’s severe beating by police in Los Angeles was recorded by a citizen. Earlier, in the late 1960s, a number of fellow officers and I publicly stood up during the height of the civil rights protests and said the same thing in our local newspaper.)

Yes, these are tough times for you. At the same time this is a tremendous opportunity for you to DEFINE yourself to your community (especially those of color).

You must not only say they are not like “those cops,” you must also ACT as they promise — and have the DATA (evidence) that you are acting as respectful, honest, controlled, community-oriented police officers.
